YE BERLYN TAPESTRIE: WILHELM'S INVASION OF FLANDERS, 1915. First Edition cartoon panorama, softcover, each print measuring 140 x 180mm, folded concertina style [cover and first two pages detached], printed by Edmund Evans, Ltd. London, 1915. Summarised on the back cover: "Ye Berlyn Tapestrie" is founded on the famous Bayeux Tapestry which recorded incidents of the Invasion of England by William The Conqueror, A.D. 1066, additional pencil inscription on back cover.
Pioneering British illustrator John Hassall responded to the horrors of the First World War with his trademark black humour in this panorama of "Ye Berlyn Tapestrie", a parody of the Bayeux Tapestry which satirises German agression. Thirty illustrated panels, in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry, depicts Kaiser Wilhem II's invasion of Luxembourg and Belgium in comic caricature.
