FOSSIL: RARE FOSSIL REPTILE DINOSAUR (HYPHALOSAURUS LINGYUANENSIS AKA SINOHYDROSAURUS) CRETACEOUS AGE~125 MILLION YEARS AGO,
collected from Lingyuan, China. A complete specimen mounted in bespoke glazed oak case.
Hyphalosaurus was neither fish nor amphibian, but a reptile descended from land-dwelling ancestors (similar to how the ancestors of whales were once land-dwellers) to become a freshwater dweller. A species of diapsid reptile, and therefore a relative of all dinosaurs. It is believed that these creatures fed off small vertebrates and fish and could also have been able to walk around on dry land.
A rare and impressive conversation piece.
Dimensions - the animal measuring 17cms long (nose to tail tip around curve). Fossil plate measures approx. 14cms long by 10.5cms wide. Case 21cms long, 18cms wide, 5cms deep.
