A pendant, by Nino D'Antonio Germano The oval plaque, featuring a female warrior cast in high relief, signed Germano, maker's mark, length 7.8cm Nino D'Antonio Germano was born in 1926 and was a member of the Alfonsi family, who were important jewellers in Rome. He primarily worked as a painter and sculptor, however he did produce some jewellery using the traditional cire perdue method of casting. The process itself is self-destructive, as the wax sculptures melt away and are lost when the molten gold is poured into the mould, thereby guaranteeing that each jewel is unique. Classical motifs and high relief depictions of the human form are typical of Germano's work.
