A FINE THAI NIELLOED SILVER INKWELL
Thailand, late 19th - early 20th century

Of compressed disc-like shape, resting on a short, straight foot, the silver band at the top surrounding the circular opening decorated in niello with apsaras and semi-divine beings under poly-lobed arches and amidst stylised kirtimukha, flames, and vegetal trellis, the parcel-gilt bottom and base of the inkwell plain, 3.5cm diam. and 2.2cm high.
