A THAI DEVOTIONAL BUDDHIST ICON WITH GOLD AND SILVER FOIL
Thailand, late 19th - early 20th century

The miniature wooden Buddhist icon representing the Buddha in his bhumisparsa mudra (the Earth Touching gesture), his legs folded in the lotus position and his other hand open with the palm facing up, the body wrapped in thick gold foil, the stepped mount below the icon wrapped in silver foil and engraved with overlapping geometric and stylised decorative bands, 11cm high.
