A cased late 20th century Thai sterling silver cigarette box, Bangkok circa 1986
Of stepped rectangular form, the hinged lid with niello decoration centred with a bodhivastu, reserved with foliate scrolls. The faux burr wood interior with an unattached plaque with presentation inscription “To. H.E Ambassador H.A.J. Staples, as a token of sincere appreciation for his valuable contribution in further strengthening the close and cordial relations between Thailand and the United Kingdom during his successful tour of duty in Bangkok, 1981-86, Air Chief Marshal signature (Siddhi Saversila) Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand 29 January 1986”. Housed in a fitted velvet case. Marked to the reverse.
