AMERICAN YOSEMITE SPECIMEN WOOD BOX, CIRCA 1880-1900, of oblong form with canted corners, fitted with two drawers, constructed from twelve different timbers and with handwritten provenance note detailing
"Cabinet inlaid with 12 different woods collected and made in Yosemite,
The top panel is of sugar pine, or balsam fir, the border is of arrow, margarita, lilac, Douglas spruce & margarita
Front border mt. mahogany & buckeye,
First drawer, margarita, nutmeg, apple tree & spicewood,
Second drawer, Oregon grape, margarita, Douglas spruce, lilac, margarita & arrow,
Right side borders are of mountain mahogany, buckeye and margarita,
