An Elizabeth II sterling silver swan jardinière, London 1971, by Mappin & Webb Ltd Realistically modelled as a swan, with engraved feathers and gilt beak, fitted with a flower grille. Length – 35 cm/13.8 inches Weight – 4455 grams/143.2 ozt A swan centrepiece in a similar style and made by Asprey in 1985, sits in the Gilbert collection in the V&A. Swan centrepieces are believed to have been inspired by the 18th century automated example in the Bowes museum in Barnard Castle, county Durham.
