A LACQUERED RAWHIDE SHIELD (DHAL) North India, 19th century  Of rounded form, with four applied sun-shaped silver bosses, the exterior with gold and polychrome-painted lacquered decoration consisting of four pairs of fighting animals, the central roundel filled with a Raja's stylised face against a twenty-two-pointed star, the interior all black, 52cm diam.
