An early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver scroll casket, Karachi dated 1939

Raj period. Of bombe form with a hinged lid, surmounted by a cast and chased figure of Shiva with the bull Nandi. The body with chased decoration of buildings with trees against a mountainscape, with a scroll cartouche to each side. One side chased with a presentation inscription reading “Presented to A. L. Carnegie Esq. by L. Dhani Ram Bhalla, Lahore, April 1939”. The interior with a silk embroidered scroll titled “Address Presented to A. L. Carnegie, Esq. managing director, British Indian Corporation Ltd, Campore by Mr Ahmed Hassan of Messrs A. H. Mohaamed Ismail & Co, also two from The Workers and The Indian Staff of Messrs. Cooper, Allen & Co. Campore to A. L. Carnegie, Esq. on his retirement. All upon a wooden base.
