the carved oak kennel with hinged roof opening to the interior with compartment for matches, with a bronze model of a hound appearing from the kennel door, with a plaque to the inside edge of the box signed 'DIEHL Michel le Comte 19 Paris',

25cm wide x 16cm high

The bronze hound might have been modelled by the Animalier sculptor Fremiet. Diehl worked with the sculptor when producing his famous oak cigar cabinets that feature silvered bronze panthers, see Christie's, New York, 23 October 2018, lot 96, £37,500.
