Late Ming - Qing Dynasty

明末至清 硬木嵌壽山石螺鈿胡人蓋盒

The box of square form carved from hardwood, finely inlaid with various semi-precious stones, including soapstone and mother-of-pearl but also metal-inlay, depicting a foreign Mongol equestrian bowman, riding a horse and holding his bow, turned back and facing backwards in his saddle, the horse standing with the foreleg raised in a rocky landsapce, the corners further decorated with rocks and clouds, the rims of the box and cover both inlaid with metal wire, the base bearing a metal-inlaid mark
