Contemporary calf-backed marbled boards (rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: some early marginalia; "tres rare" (old inscription followed by illegible initials on front free endpaper). The author, born on the island of Aegina, who went on to practice medicine and surgery in Alexandra, is today considered a pioneer of plastic surgery.
