A POLYCHROME-PAINTED POTTERY BOWL AND SERVING PLATE WITH FISH DESIGN
Iran, first half 20th century
Comprising a deep rounded bowl resting on a tall, slightly splayed, circular foot, painted in cobalt blue, yellow, green, manganese purple, and black on a white ground, the central roundel featuring five fish amidst rosettes, foliage, and chubby doves, the cavetto with a wide band of rose trellis with minute leaves, the rim painted in cobalt blue, the exterior repeating the same floral motif of the cavetto, 27.5cm diam. and 12.5cm high; and a matching shallow rounded serving plate presenting the same fish design and floral decoration, 28cm diam. and 8cm high.
