An early 18th century Dutch or German silver powder or spice box, circa 1730 by G.G (unascribed)
Of cylindrical form, with pull off shaped lid, the interior with a pull-out pierced grill, with incised concentric circles. The body with flat chased decoration of a running dog, a bird, and a goat among foliate scrolls against a textured ground. The lid with flat chased swags of laurel leaves centred with a rosette. Maker mark only underneath, with an incuse running dog above two indistinct letters, each piece additionally marked with French provincial guarantee marks for second standard (1809-19).
