John Butler for Wilkinson Ltd Pottery, an Art Deco period ovoid vase circa 1920's, 'Egypt' pattern, with ribbed body and strong geometric design in shades of brown, grey, black and orange, printed factory mark and painted pattern no 6998 to the base, 12cm high. Footnote: John Butler, together with Fred Ridgeway were Wilkinson's best designers prior to the arrival of Clarice Cliff in 1920 aged 17. John Butler was Clarice's former supervisor. His work was issued alongside Clarice's for the first few years of 'Bizarre' ware, as well as 'Tahiti Storm'.
