TAXIDERMY: ‘MAN-FACED STOAT (MUSTELA SAPIENS)'
free standing full mount
30cm long, 13cm high
History - this mythological species is said to be the result of an escaped pet marmoset monkey having its wicked way with a wild stoat in the 1920s. A hundred years on, several small pocketed populations persist in areas of Epping Forest and woodlands of Essex. However, numbers are dwindling due to females finding males too unattractive to mate with.
Their common name originating from the fact their faces resemble a grumpy old man.
