An early 19th century Indian Colonial silver tureen, Madras, circa 1810 by Robert Gordon II (active 1802-1818)
Of hemispherical form upon a spreading circular foot. Lion mask junctions to each side with ring handles. The pull-off lid with a detachable reeded loop and acanthous leaf junction upon a disc terrace. The lid engraved with a crest of issuing from a chapeau a demi lion rampant ducally crowned. Marked to the foot rim only engraved with makers mark RG, thistle and then later engraved SOLID SILVER.
