Note: Harold Cohen developed an experimental digital drawing programme named AARON in 1973. Cohen had long been interested in the relationship between computer learning and art. This drawing system was designed to mimic human artist's image making, the machine was fitted with a black felt pen and was programmed to create biomorphic and botanical forms. This lot was created in 1983 when the Tate Gallery hosted four AARON drawing machines. The four machines were capable of drawing about twelve works an hour, creating hundreds of unique ink drawings during the exhibition.
