CRICKET BAT. A full-length “Feltham” cricket bat, with a silver plaque engraved, “Presented to J. Dixon, by the Meadows, C.C. 1877”, length 870mm., [1877]. John Auger Dixon (1861-1931) captained Nottinghamshire at cricket and also played football for England. "I bought this cricket bat from a sale at Trent Bridge in 1984. This old-fashioned bat was typical of the period and has the most wonderful provenance. John Dixon captained Nottinghamshire at cricket and played football for England and the bat was presented by a descendant of the great Arthur Shrewsbury. When WG was asked who was the best man in his side after himself, he immediately said, 'Give me Arthur'" (H.B.).
