Through China with a Camera, First edition, half-title, frontispiece, complete ‘with nearly 100 illustrations’, occasional spotting, some quires partially loose, library blindstamp to title page, library 'rules' to both pastedowns, original pictorial cloth gilt, t.e.g., some wear, removed sticker mark to spine, 4to, 1898.
*** John Thomson (1837-1921) was one of the first to photograph the people and landscape of China for Western eyes. Thomson's travels in China were often perilous and most of the people he encountered had never seen a Westerner or camera before.
