PROVENANCE:
Acquired by the present owner from Gilbert Fischer, Paris, 1998

Claude Venard, began his artistic training at the École Boulle, where he studied decorative arts and design. Later, he enrolled at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, where he studied painting.

One of the defining features of Venard's work is his use of vibrant, saturated colours. The present work with bold and rich impasto throughout the canvas, exacuted at his most expresive period with the use of thick brushstrokes, adding a sense of energy and movement. He was particularly interested in capturing the essence of everyday objects and scenes, infusing them with a sense of vitality and dynamism.

Venard's style is often associated with the School of Paris, a group of artists who emerged in the early 20th century and were characterised by their exploration of new artistic forms and techniques. He developed a unique approach to painting that combined elements of Fauvism, Cubism, and abstraction.
