Greene (Graham)
The Confidential Agent,
First edition, endpapers browned, intermittent foxing, including to title page, original cloth, second issue dust-jacket with front flap trimmed and '4s net' to spine, expert restoration along joints and edges, retouching to title on spine, [Wobbe A13], 8vo, William Heinemann, 1939.
***Fuelled by benzedrine, Greene wrote The Confidential Agent in only six weeks, in a Bloomsbury room he had rented to avoid distraction. He was so displeased with his work that, prior to its critical success, he wanted it published under a pseudonym.
