TWO INCISED AND CARVED DECORATIVE STONE MOULDS
PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Possibly Iran, 13th - 15th century
Comprising two fragmentary, unrelated stone moulds, one featuring a pair of deeply incised fish-like figures flanking a stylised pyriform vessel, each design carved with further abstract geometric patterns, 15.5cm x 14.5cm; and another similar, with a rectangular cartouche with a lobed arabesque medallion in the centre, framed within a pseudo-calligraphic band, a cusped arch filled with scrolling vegetal meanders at the top, 18cm x 13.4cm at widest point.
