The fascination for the world of gemmology has sent Max around the world. After completing his FGA in Singapore, he joined a laboratory in Antwerp grading and lecturing on diamonds, then on to do a bachelor’s degree in gemmology and jewellery studies in Birmingham, and if that wasn’t enough travelling for one lifetime, he went on to work for Gemfields at their emerald mine in Zambia.
Before joining us, Max has worked for numerous other auction houses including, Sotheby’s, Christie’s in London and AAG in Amsterdam. He has a wealth of knowledge in both gemmology and jewellery. His professional interests include gemstones from Burma, where he has spent time on site, European jewellers from the 1920s, and he also is developing a fledgling interest in watchmaking.
