Bruce joins Chiswick Auctions from Bonhams, where he spent twenty years, both in Scotland and London. In Scotland he held the post of senior auctioneer and Head of the Furniture Department. He was involved in many single owner collections, as well as pioneering sales of Scottish furniture from the 16th century to the present day. In addition he was part of a team presenting Post War Design and Contemporary Art sales in Edinburgh in the late 1990s. This interest developed into becoming the UK specialist for modern design in 2004, and then again in 2016, sourcing and cataloguing sales for Knightsbridge and New Bond Street.
He has a passion for furniture history and design and this broad interest, along with over two decades in the business, and a diploma in fine arts valuation, gives him the experience to assist as a general valuer when required. He is a member of the Furniture, Regional Furniture and 20th Century Societies, has conducted auctions for a wide range of charities, and in 2012 appeared in Ken Loach’s award-winning film ‘The Angel’s Share’…where he played an auctioneer.
