Chiswick Auctions is proud to announce the opening of the Russian department the first sale will be held on Tuesday 18th November and while this may appear a long way off it gives our clients plenty of time to bring in Russian entries. Chiswick is working with a number of leading experts in Russian art with the wealth of experience in their respective fields.
We are seeking consignment of 19th and 20th paintings, works on paper, silver, jewellery, furniture and other works of art. To start the excitement we are delighted to have this painting by Aristakh Lentulov as the inaugural piece for the auction.
Aristakh Lentulov, mixed media on paper, executed in 1915 with provenance, estimate: £25,000 - 30,000.

Aristarkh Lentulov is one of the most important avant-garde Russian artists of the first half of 20 century and was a founding member of the Knave of Diamonds in 1910. He studied at the studio of Henri Le Fauconnier and the Académie de La Palette in Paris in 1910-1912 which led to develop his own artistic style intertwining Fauvism, Cubo-Futurism and traditional Russian folk art. In 1910s he worked on various theatre productions. This work is a stage design to Alexander Borodin opera “Prince Igor”. It is 18 x 33 cm, mixed media on paper, executed in 1915. It comes from a private collection where it came from Marianna Lentulova, the artist’s daughter.

We have really been pushing boundaries here at Chiswick Auctions by having each of our valuers start their own specialist auction. This week we had the inaugural Stamps, Coins & Banknotes sale with 50 lots. Once again we have been delighted with the results and remind to consign for the next sale to be held on Tuesday 9th September. The sale was followed by our weekly Antiques & Interior sale of 500 or more lots.
Tuesday 20th May
In the 20
th Century & Contemporary Art & Design sale held on the 20
th May we were very pleased to have a fine piece by
Jais Nielsen known for his work for
Royal (crown) Copenhagen Denmark. This large ceramic figure came through an enquiry to Chiswick Auctions from a Danish lady who now resides in England. James Nurse our resident specialist for 20
th art recognised it immediately as a very good piece and says
“This is probably a world record auction price for this ceramic figure.”James has now held three 20
th Century auctions for Chiswick Auctions all since January 2014. As popular as ever and continuing in the same vein as the first ones with excellent result, it appears this particular auction is getting its own following of new clients. James is available for free valuations on Thursdays so this is a good day to come along and meet him.
