William Rouse and his team have collated an extraordinary collection of items for the Fine Antique & Art with Furniture sale for Tuesday 8th July. Including a Thomas Tompion longcase, an 18th Century German walnut longcase, a pair of fine stumpwork pictures, carpets, a Cartier bracelet, Moorcroft, Meissen, objects of vertû, Herend dinner wares, Gallé vase, Georgian bracket clock, a pocket globe, pair of 19th Century Italian blackamoors, jewellery including diamond rings, watches.
Pictures, including artists; Duncan Grant, William Charles Rushton, John Hall Thorpe, Victor Kudrin, Dudley Hardy, Alfredo Helsby, Jacob Nussbaum, fabulous Florentine gilt wood picture frame, Matisse print, Loius Icart, Charles Euprasie Kuwasseg and many, many, more.
A very rare fine example of a pair of 17th Century Florentine carved gilt wood framed dioramic relic pictures, presented in the form of multimedia collage, depicting scenes from the Old Testament.
As these Saints and Martyrs pieces are hardly ever intact it is so interesting to find these complete and untouched. What also makes these so particularly interesting apart from their fine beauty is there are at the top and bottom of each picture a Saint and Martyrs name and under these hand written banners appear to be 300 year old or more bones held in place with muslin, a fascinating thought for all theologians.
The pictures are of hand drawn figures on paper, cut out and dressed in fine silks. The backgrounds are hand painted silks with embroidered trees and vegetation. The surrounding is framed by slightly tarnished fine metal and gilt ribbons and lace with floral paper decorations.
The first picture has a flying Angel speaking to a King who is holding in front of him a young boy child blindfolded and sitting on a pyre ready to burn, with a lamb at his feet. The background is surrounded by cities and palm trees.
The second picture has an Angel to the centre walking down a path by a river with a man to his right, clearly both in conversation. A dog is barking at a large fish in the river. There are mountains in the background and olive trees in the foreground.
