11th December Christmas Shopping

13/12/2012     Chiswick Curates

As Christmas draws closer and the year comes to an end, Chiswick Auctions held it’s penultimate sale of 2012 on Tuesday 11th December.  Not surprisingly, jewellery held the day proving popular as one would expect at Christmas time.

It wasn’t hard to notice the husbands and boyfriends in the room looking to buy that ‘special’ Christmas gift.  Sighs of relief were audible when their purchase was successful !  We even found ourselves looking for jewellery boxes for our buyer’s gifts... Well it is Christmas!

The prices for jewellery were steady throughout and lots such as Lot 342, a pair of high carat gold woven bangles which sold for £8,300, including buyers premium and Lot 331, which sold for £1,320 including premium were clearly subject to determined bidding by private buyers hoping to secure a surprise for Christmas morning.

Following in the festive spirit, Lots 504 and 508, the large vintage wine lots, sold respectively for £500 and £650 on the hammer, well above their higher estimate and are, no doubt, going to grace this year’s festive table!

Lot 461, the Isfahan silver table lustres took a tidy £1,680 including buyer’s premium and nearly all the silver lots followed suit, selling comfortably on or above sale room estimates.

The remainder of the sale was steady, with perhaps a leaning towards 19th century and later paintings which seemed to be popular in this week’s sale, with no shortage of interest.

Chiswick’s last sale of the year will take place next Tuesday 18th December and will almost certainly see a flurry of final Christmas present buying!

The year may be coming to a close, however, here at Chiswick Auctions, the first fine sale of 2013 is already taking shape and looks to be an exciting event which will include fine Oriental antiques as well as European.

The date for the January Fine Sale is the 8th of January and we hope to see you there!

On a lighter note, the office Christmas tree is up, decorated in elegant silver baubles by Tracy in between cataloguing dolls and frantic preparations for her Doll, Toys and Vintage Textile sale.
