TAXIDERMY/ ENTOMOLOGY: BUTTERFLY WINGS TABLE, EARLY-MID 20TH CENTURY,

an unusual table, the top glazed with carved wood surround. Dozens of genuine butterfly wings displayed under glass. The glass painted black on the underside, along with a hand painted exotic scene of palm trees, green hills and mountains. The blue skies and seas being formed by the striking iridescent wings of Giant Blue Morpho butterflies displayed beneath the glass. Bordered by four stripe bands (with other species of butterlfy wings beneath) and four silhouette vignettes of butterflies to each corner (again with morpho butterlfy wings displayed beneath).

The wooden legs of the table can be unscrewed, allowing the piece to be displayed as a picture.

Originally produced as a souvenir for the tourist trade in South America.

top measures 27.5 x 19.5 inches. Stands 20 inches tall as table.
