A early-19th century German unmarked gold mounted mother of pearl notebook / aide memoire, possibly Berlin circa 1820
Rectangular form, the side modelled as a book spine with engraved arabesque decoration. The front and back of panels of mother of pearl, the front with applied openwork foliate arabesques with collet set old cut garnets. The interior opened via a removable engraved propelling pencil.
