A ROMAN RECTANGULAR BRONZE BELT FITTING Circa 1st - 4th Century A.D. Formed of two parts of curved rectangular hammered bronze, attached in the centre, with ornate decoration, including columns of knops, the larger of which at each terminal may have been for attachment to the belt, and applied sheets of bronze with incised geometric patterns and cut out elements, 44.3cm long. Provenance: Property from the Axel Guttmann (1944-2001) collection (AG 341). A copy of an old photograph of this object in the Guttmann cabinet accompanies this lot.
