A fine and rare early 20^th century Burmese silver three-piece coffee set on tray, Rangoon dated 1907

Comprising a coffee pot, milk jug, a twin handled sugar bowl, and a tray. The tray of octagonal form upon four cast ball and claw feet. The broad edge with embossed decoration of seated figures against a pierced ground of foliate scrolls, the field centre with a flat chased large peacock displayed within a circular cartouche reserved with flat chased fruiting vine against a textured ground. The edge of cartouche engraved with a presentation inscription reading “Presented to A. E. Potter Esq. by the brothers of St Paul’s Rangoon on the occasion of his marriage April 22^nd 1907.” The set of globular form with tall cylindrical upper section, the body with a curved spout opposite a cast handle formed as a standing female figure, the pull off domed lid surmounted by a detachable cast genuflecting male figure in traditional dress, all above an acanthus leaf calyx. The lower sections with embossed decoration of figures; on the coffee pot kneeling, on the milk jug including Rama firing his arrow, on the sugar bowl Maricha transforming himself into a golden deer, all against a textured ground between bands of stylised acanthus leaves. The upper sections each finely chased with a peacock displayed reserved with fruiting vine. The milk and sugar with cast handles formed as kneeling women. Each chased underneath with a peacock displayed. (4)
