Cathleen Mann was first known as an official war artist whose portraits were reproduced in magazines, such as TIME and toured the Americas. In addition to war portraits, Mann was also skilled at landscape paintings and cityscapes. In the displayed work, ‘St. James Park’ through a combination of paint application and a carefully chosen colour palette, the artist captures the tranquil and idyllic nature of a classic London day spent in the park, seemingly devoid of the burdens of war.
