Notes:

Thomas Blake Wirgman, a painter and illustrator of Swedish descent, was raised in London and began studying at the Royal Academy Schools at the age of fifteen. After spending a period working in Paris, he returned to London to continue his career. Wirgman created a series of portraits for The Graphic magazine and continued to produce portrait drawings and paintings throughout his life. He also illustrated a series of British sculptors for Century Magazine.
