A CHINESE MARBLE ‘DRAGON’ PILLAR FRAGMENT.

Ming Dynasty.

The cylindrical pillar section carved and pierced in sharp relief encircled by a ferocious dragon with piercing eyes and trailing whiskers, the legs and claws grasping onto the sides of the column, 34cm H, 14.5cm diameter.

Provenance: Acquired in France in the 1970s, reputedly from the Summer Palace, Beijing.
