A William III and later walnut and seaweed marquetry longcase clock by John Shaw of Holborn
With twin train eight day movement striking on a bell, quatrefoil winds

The silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, signed 'John Smith in Holborne', the brass dial with matted centre engraved with scrolls and triple crowns, subsidiary seconds dial and calendar arpeture, mounted spandrels, the painted walnut case with maquetry inlay of 'seaweed', tulips, and birds, barley twist pillared hood and moulded cornice, the trunk door with glazed bob aperture, the block base on four bun feet, with handwritten paper label to the interior 'This clock belongs to Mr. Thomas P. Bigg-Wither'.

Notes:

John Shaw was apprentice to Thomas Taylor of Holborn in 1672. He was freed from the Clockmakers Company in 1672 and became a master in 1712.

Thomas Pantagenet Bigg-Wither (1845-1890) was an English engineer and writer.
