A BAMBOO FIRESCREEN DISPLAY OF EXOTIC BIRDS AND BEETLES, IN THE MANNER OF ROWLAND WARD

TAXIDERMY: A BAMBOO FIRESCREEN DISPLAY OF EXOTIC BIRDS AND BEETLES, IN THE MANNER OF ROWLAND WARD, LATE 19TH CENTURY

with seven South American birds in two sided (front and back) glazed box case, displayed as a fire-screen. With bamboo beading and framework. The decorative carry handle in tact. The birds are mounted on a handmade branch set amongst dried vegetation and moss.

The bird species are as follows -

Blue Dacnis, aka Turquoise Honeycreeper (Dacnis cayana) - males (black and blue - 3 specimens) and females (green with blue head - 2 specimens)

Turquoise Tanager (Tangara mexicana) - the largest bird in the display, with stunning electric turquoise ‘shoulders’

Blue-tailed Emerald Hummingbird (Chlorostilbon mellisugus)

Three Brazilian Tortoise Beetles (Polychalca punctatissima) accent the case, shimmering like little gems.

overall 80cm high; maximum 40cm wide
