PROVENANCE:
Peter Adam and then by descent

Adam was a renowned British Filmmaker and BBC producer, writer, art specialist and collector of Modern Art. He wrote Eileen Gray: Her Life and Work: The Biography (2009); Outlines: David Hockney (1997) and Art of the Third Reich (1997).

This work is one of Vaughan's early war-time sketchbook studies. They represent his comrades in the non-combatant No 9 Company, in which he was serving as a contentious objector.
