A large collection of letters, postcards, visiting cards, and autographs from notable people of the 19th and 20th centuries, mostly stage actors, playwrights and authors, including: Sir Squire Bancroft (handwritten letter to Henry Gurner inviting him to dine), Sir John Hare, C. Hayden Coffin, Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson, Herbert Beerbohm(three handwritten letter describing his motor car “Our motor car has been hors de combat all the week”), Edward Terry, Robert Speaight, Cyril Maude (typed letter dated 2nd Oct 1911 “I am up to my eyes in work rehearsing a new play”), William Macready, William Hunter Kendal, Henry Kemble (handwritten letter to Henry Gurner dated 28 Oct 1907 “I am distinctly on the mend and the doctor gives me hope of sitting up for an hour”), Charles Kean, Maurice Farkoa, Sir Henry Irving (signed photo postcard), Herbert Waring (handwritten letter dated 26th Sept 1904 giving his sentiments on losing his lawsuit brought by Lillie Langtry); Mrs Patrick Campbell (signed quotation on Duke of York’s Theatre notepaper “I’m afraid I have been a very long time – I met some friends and you know how it is? The Adored One”), Dorothy Dorr, Isabella Glyn, Annie Hughes, Rosalind Iden, Madge Kendal, Amy Sedgwick (handwritten letter with small photograph dated 25th July 1864 “In compliance with your request I have the pleasure to enclose a brief memoir of myself sketched by a literary friend for the fidelity of which I can vouch”), Ellaline Terriss (handwritten letter to Gerald Hervey “Thank you many times for your interesting and interested letter”), Mary Moore, Maria Theresa Lewis, Felix Salten (the creator of “Bambi”), Alfred Sutro, Douglas Sladen, Charles Reade, Francis Brett Young (handwritten letter giving permission to allow “the song from Georgian Poetry” to be set), Lord Edward Willis, Christopher Hampton, Brandon Thomas (signed album page with self-caricature with his trademark monocle and attached postcard photo), Charles Dyer, Clement Scott, Ashley Dukes and John Palgrave Simpson (handwritten letter dated 17th Oct 1876 “as a souvenir of more than one incident in a romantic life”), Ben Webster, Max Reinhardt and others, all in good condition, v.s. (c. 60s)
