AN ANTIQUE BIJAR RUG, NORTH-WEST PERSIA

The sort rust-red filed with overall design of polychorme palmettes linked by angular floral and leafy vine. In an indigo borddr of stylised turtle-palmettes and angular florwering vine between abrashed ivory-yellow floral meander stripes.Outer plain stripe, approx: 180cm x 148cm. Very good example for this type with well drawn design and very good colour combination. This rug has few small old repairs, very well done and not visible on the face, touches of repiling in few very small places on edges, otherwise the pile is good, soft wool quality. Selvages original. Ends with original kilim, small repair and minute fraying on the kilim at one end, both secured. This rug was woven on wool foundation. In general very good usable condition. Attractive and very elegant piece
