*** One of the most beautiful monumental treatises written in the 18th century. Heineken focuses much on light and shade, with certain figures in plates holding candles to demonstrate this. The 1st section concerns the use of perspective in solid shapes followed by the 2nd section dealing with columns, doorways, stairs; building interiors and facades, city gates, church interiors including, confessionals, pulpits, altars and tombs. The end of the work contains a series of 18 spectacular plates for painting trompe-l'oeil ceiling decorations all exhibiting onlookers peering over balustrades. Paul Heineken (1680-1746) was a painter, architect, and coffeeshop owner.
