AN ANTIQUE SUMAC RUG, SOUTH CAUCASUS

The rust field with with four hooked and linked large hexagon medallions, each containing floral panels and angular leafy vine in a shape of open centrepiece. similar panels at each side. In rosette and hooked bar narrow border between reciprocal and barber-pole stripes, approx; 7ft.7in. x 3ft.5in.(231cm. x 104cm.) Unusual size for this type. Design is well drawn and well balanced colours. This rug has slightly corroded black. Slightly fraying cord on edges in places. Scattered touches of wear. One end with original kilim. Other end with short fringes. In general this rug is in good usable conditon. Popular type at present market. Attractive.
