Artist's Estate
Long Reach and Erith Reach are on the Thames, upstream from Dartford Bridge. Myers retained a lifelong interest in transport, from steam trains to the Apollo space missions. As an art student at Central School of Art and the RCA he was drawn to the traditional fat bottomed Thames sailing barges, conscious no doubt that the days of these majestic vessels were numbered. But still then regularly used in the ferrying of goods and cargo, he occasionally persuaded one of the crews to take him on board for a sail along the Thames Estuary.
