A pair of Chinese cloisonné enamel bird-form censers, Qing dynasty, Jiaqing period, 18th century
清嘉慶 十八世紀 掐絲琺瑯鳥形熏爐 一對

The pair of fine cloisonné enamel censers and covers represented in mirror image, standing on two legs, one with its head turning to the right, while the other turns to the left, both with their beaks slightly open for the incense smoke to escape, the lids carefully executed to form the wings drawn against their bodies, the stylised plumage rendered by the fine gilt partition wires with dark green, yellow, blue, purple and red enamels, both together with elaborately carved wood stands in the form of lingzhi sprigs and chrysanthemum flowers amindst rocky formations
