AN EXTREMELY FINE SILK HEREKE RUG, TURKEY

The ivory field with delicate rosette and leafy vine around stylised multicoloured floral vase. Sinlge column at each side supporting floral mihrab and hanging lamp. In an unusual checkered border with ice-blue floral and vase motif cartouches between arabesque and plain stripes, approx: 3ft.9in. x 2ft.3in.(114cm. x 68cm.). Apart of tiny wear in one or two very small place on cord edge, this rug has full pile, fine and lustrous silk. Very good colour combination and well drawn motifs. Extremely fine weave approx: 10 x 10 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. Selvages original. Ends with original kilim and short fringes. Signature cartouche at one end. In general this rug is in very good usable condition. Very attractive piece .Beautifiul quality and very nice example from Hereke weaving.
