An early 20^th century American sterling silver and unmarked gold cigarette box, Providence, Rhode Island circa 1940 by Gorham, retailed by Cartier

Of rectangular form with hinged lid and a moulded base. The gently domed lid with four vacant rectangular plaques, against engine turned bands with five overlayed rose gold bands. Incised concentric bands to the side with engine turned decoration. Wood lined base. Marked underneath and stamped 180 A11, also stamped CARTIER. Housed in a later fitted presentation case for Cartier.
