A fine Chinese bronze parcel-gilt 'dragon and phoenix' censer and cover, 17th century
十七世紀 銅海獸紋蓋爐 《大明宣德年製》楷書款

The body of oval section and cast in relief with mythical beasts being swept away by tumultuous waves and set with a pair of lion mask handles, raised on a splayed base formed with a band of petal lappets, the reticulated domed cover formed with pairs of dragons and phoenixes emerging from dense swirling clouds, surmounted by a tall pierced finial cast as a curling dragon, the surface with traces of gilt, the base with a recessed cartouche bearing a six-character Xuande mark
