Orwell (George) The Road to Wigan Pier, FIRST TRADE EDITION, with the Foreward meant to have been omitted (and only present in some copies), half title, 32 plates, minor spotting to preliminaries, a few annotations in pencil to margins at close of text, illegible owner's signature dated 1945, later bookplate, typed Edwin Rolfe poem 'Definition' tipped in to recto of rear freendpaper, original light blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, edges faintly spotted,  jacket foxed with spine slightly darkened and  loss at foot, small label to spine covering price, 8vo, Victor Gollancz, 1937.  ***The first edition of this book was the Left Book Club edition (a large edition of 44,150 copies) which was not available to the public. A small number were issued with the Foreward (just a small number of the Left Book Club edition were issued without it). These copies of the trade edition are likely to have been among the first issued.
