Notes:

Pierre Emmanuel Damoye was a prominent French landscape painter associated with the Barbizon and Pontoise schools. A student of Léon Bonnat at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Damoye was deeply influenced by the naturalistic approach of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Charles-François Daubigny, whose vibrant colours and looser brushwork shaped his early style. Over time, he developed a more personal aesthetic, focusing on luminous skies and tranquil river scenes. He was part of the School of Pontoise, a group of artists working along the Seine and Oise rivers, and exhibited widely, earning major awards including medals at the Salon and a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle. He became a member of the Salon jury and helped found the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Today, Damoye’s works are held in major collections such as the Musée d'Orsay and Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, and museums in Bordeaux, Troyes, Bucharest, and Helsinki, among others.
